Cctv Cameras And Your Teenager In Compromising Situations

You installed CCTV cameras in your home for a variety of reasons: a) You wanted to monitor the household help lest she is stealing your property and your husband; b) You wanted home security, not just the homeland security President Bush is so fond of invoking; c) You wanted to snoop on your neighbor who is also spying on you and; d) You wanted to monitor your teenage son whom you suspect is becoming an alien. Whatever the reason for your CCTV cameras, the last one is reason enough, don't you think?

When the Parent is Away, The Teenager Will Party!

Like any parent with a normal teenager, you can have concerns about leaving your child in charge of the house while you go on a short vacation, which could be just around the state. Not even the combined forces of Dennis the Menace and Kevin of Home Alone fame can match the party capabilities of your teenager. So, you leave rules like: a) Do not invite more than 3 friends over; b) Do not have a party; c) Do not smoke and drink inside the house and; d) Behave or else.

What will you do when feeds from your CCTV cameras show that all rules have been broken and then some? Well, you can: a) Listen to his excuse about having a bunch of friends over as not qualifying as a party since he knew all of them; a party is when a bunch of people you do not know come over to the house; b) Ground him for weeks until you find something good about his behavior on the footages from the CCTV cameras like him cleaning up the kitchen mess, replacing the grocery and draining the pool after the party and; d) Remember when you used to do the same thing when you were a teenager only your parents never had CCTV cameras trained on you. You should talk with him instead.

Invite the Girlfriend Over, Invite Trouble

Well, okay. This might be an exaggeration. However, you should never allow your son to invite his girlfriend to his bedroom, lock the door, and make noises of either the musical kind or the sexual type. You should never install CCTV cameras in his room either; you would be inviting trouble if you even dare think about it.

The better thing to do is to allow your son's girlfriend in living areas of the house where they cannot do any hanky-panky; at least, not when you are around. What happens when you are not around and your security cameras catch them doing preludes to more dangerous activities?

Well, you can: a) Teach your son about the dangers of birds and bees, if you have not gotten around to "The Talk" yet; b) Limit his dates with the girlfriend and increase his hatred for anything parental; c) Ground him till a male chastity belt is legally sanctioned and; d) Have a heart-to-heart talk about rules in the house.

Whatever scrapes your teenage son gets himself into, remember that you were once in his shoes, you were once in the same compromising situations, and you are the parent here. As such, you can empathize with him and come up with options that can strengthen your familial bonds. Maybe you can be an alien, too?
