Vintage Engagement Rings

Vintage Engagement Rings Are Really Quite Stylish

Vintage engagement rings are very stylish today. This type of a ring is usually more than 50-years-old. As such, anything that is between 30 and 50-years-old is called an “estate ring” instead. In other words, these rings come from the time period of 1835 through 1900. On the other hand, most antique engagement rings come from the time period of 1900 through 1930. Oftentimes, these vintage engagement rings will fit a woman's style and personality more so than a modern day engagement ring ever would.

What You Should Know When Choosing Vintage Engagement Rings

The standards for diamonds that we know of today are not necessarily the same standards that were used when vintage engagement rings were first created. For instance, today diamonds that are either clear or white are considered ideal, however years ago people were looking for diamonds that had a hint of yellow, green or pink coloring to them. Another thing that is different today from the days gone by are the methods that are used to cut the diamonds. When these vintage engagement rings were cut the ways in which flaws were found were a lot less refined. Way back when, so most antique rings might not pass muster by current industry standards. As such, not all of these rings are not good for wearing on a daily basis. This is especially true of those rings that have stones other than diamonds in them.

These rings' designs oftentimes vary in their design's complexity. Many of these rings do have rows of either diamonds or pearls in them. These gems are usually set within either yellow or rose gold. Since these rings are cut by hand, the cut is going to be different than it would on a modern day engagement ring. However, all of these different things are what is important whenever you are looking for the perfect ring from this time period.

There are many places where you can purchase this type of ring from, including estate sales, flea markets, online auction sites, consignment shops and through jewelers. The best place in which to purchase these rings though is through a reputable jeweler. If you choose to purchase your ring through another source, then you are going to need to make sure that you have it checked by a certified gemologist before you purchase it, otherwise do not make the purchase.
